Pimentel denies coup plot against Enrile; defends Villar

MANILA, Jan. 20 -– Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. on Wednesday denied reports that the minority senators initiated coup plot to oust Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile to prevent the presentation a report on the C-5 road extension controversy involving Senator Manny Villar in the plenary.

In an overseas interview by the Senate press from Geneva, Switzerland, Pimentel said some people are trying to make Enrile angry to worsen the situation now that the committee report on the C-5 road is up for discussion in the plenary.

”Somebody is trying to worsen the situation. I have not talked to anybody about the coup plot,” Pimentel said.

Nationalista Party senatorial bet former Rep. Gilbert Remulla agreed with Pimentel, describing the coup plot as “psy-war ops” (psychological war operations) of the opponents just to get Enrile mad.

Pimentel also defended Villar whom Enrile called ‘coward’ for refusing to answer in the plenary the charges against him on the C-5 road controversy.

”The problem with Enrile is that what he sees in life is like physical bravery or cowardice. There are still other things like right or wrong,” Pimentel said.

The Senate minority leader explained that Villar refused to submit himself in an investigation which did not follow the process.

”Villar has already explained in the public his side through the media and he was also exonerated through Senate Resolution 1472 filed in November last year,” Pimentel said.

Meanwhile, senator Edgardo Angara denied any involvement in the alleged move to change the Senate Presidency.

"It's not true. There is no reason for Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile to be threatened. We already have a capable, decisive leader in the person of Senator Enrile — why change it barely six days before the Senate goes on a break?" he said in a media interview.

Angara said the coup plot issue cropped up due to the forthcoming May 10 national and local elections.

"I did not talk to anyone. It's a political season so all sorts of rumors are being floated," he said.

For his part, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri described the ‘coup plot’ as exaggerated that aims to confuse the people. (PNA) LOR/jfm

I only hope that my fellow filipinos will not be blindsided by Villar’s far-fetched and outrageous promises of a “bright future” for the less fortunate.

Can’t anyone see that hes just preying on the hopes and dreams of the people who can’t support themselves financially and maybe even morally?

Claiming to be one of the “mahirap” or poor, he masquerades in TV shows, commercials and radio programs as a person who sympathizes with the true urban poor.

And those ADDS! Haven’t we all seen enough of them? Well, I think its just plain desperation.
Its almost like brainwashing, repeating it again and again until it sticks to the back of your mind.
AND the adds don’t even make sense, I mean if you trully listen to it.

So people, PLEASE! OPEN YOUR EYES.
The truth is staring you in the face.

    VOTE WISELY.
