Confucius institute set up to foster Chinese culture

ANGELES CITY, Jan. 15 — Kapampangans will now have a chance to study and understand Chinese language, culture, and arts with the inauguration on Friday of the Confucius Institute at the Angeles University Foundation here.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, assisted by Pampanga Archbishop Paciano Aniceto, AUF President Joseph Emmanuel Angeles, and Commission on Higher Education Chair Emmanuel Angeles, led the unveiling of the marker of the Confucius Institute.

The President then proceeded to see the library where she viewed a file on Chinese arts and culture.

Later, the President, together with other guests that included Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao and Fujian University President Dr.Huang Hansheng, was treated to a cultural show prepared by members of the AUF Performing Arts.

To date, a total of 282 Confucius Institutes have been established all over the world, each of which sponsors a student program between China and other countries in the educational and cultural fields. (PNA)
