CATICLAN, Aklan, Jan. 14 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will conduct, with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, the 15th Common Tao Day on Friday.

Medical, dental, and optical specialists will attend the about 1,500 to 2,000 residents from 17 barangays of this coastal province.

The President will distribute one medical kit plus nebulizer to each of the barangays and at least 1,000 eyeglasses to those diagnosed with a problem.

She will also give away three wheelchairs and three certificates of hospital guarantee worth P100,000 each to pre-selected beneficiaries.

The Department of Social Welfare, in coordination with local social workers and the barangay officials, have determined who should receive the wheelchairs and hospital guarantees.

The Common Tao Day has become part of President Arroyo’s 10-point agenda, enumerated in her State of the Nation Address.

It was a project of the late President Diosdado Macapagal, in which he allocated one day each week for the regular people.

His daughter, President Arroyo, who has resumed the practice, holds the project in remote barangays. (PNA)
