MANILA, Jan. 11 – The Quezon City government said on Monday it is expediting construction work on major infrastructure projects in the city to ensure their completion before the term of the current administration ends on June 30.

QC Mayor Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. told Quezon City Hall employees during a general assembly that it was essential for his administration to accomplish things that were necessary in defining the city as a model place worthy of emulation.

“We have to finish all these projects,’’ he said. The city government is applying the final touches in the second underpass at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) while improvement works are also being undertaken inside the 26-hectare park.

Belmonte cited as an “achievement for the city’’ the construction of two underpasses linking the QMC to the Quezon City Hall compound and Commonwealth Avenue near the Philippine Coconut Authority.

Quezon City authorities said the city government opted for the construction of the underpass instead of the pedestrian overpass to maintain the scenic view of the vicinity.

Belmonte also said that the city government was fast tracking the construction of the P550 million new medical center at the Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH), another priority project of the city. (PNA) RMA/JCA
