Remonde says no politics in case vs Lacson

MANILA, Jan. 8 — The case against Senator Panfilo Lacson went through the normal judicial process.

In Friday’s media briefing, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said government investigators simply found enough evidence to merit filing of the double-murder case against the senator.

“There was absolutely no political consideration involved in it,” he added.

“The accusation of Senator Lacson that the filing of this case is politically motivated is starting to sound like a broken record of old or the warped CD of the present,” he said.

“Some people feel they are beyond the reach of the law,” Remonde said. “They just cannot accept the fact that their misdeeds could catch up on them.”

“Pardon me for saying so, but Lacson has been in power for much too long,” Remonde observed. “He was at one time one of most powerful men in the Philippines, with no less than the President of the country at that time as his patron.”

He said that explains the fact that there has been no progress in the investigation, until this time.

But the facts, he added, are very clear. A very distinguished person, Bubby Dacer, and his innocent driver were killed and there are evidence and testimonies that so far directly link the senator to the crime.

“For now, I think, allegations of political motive can only be considered as squid tactic designed to befuddle the issue,” Remonde stated. (PNA)
