MANILA, Jan. 7 – The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday dismissed a motion to transfer Datu Unsay, Maguindanao mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention cell to the Quezon City jail.

Justice Acting Secretary Agnes Devanadera said Ampatuan, Jr., prime suspect in the Maguindanao massacre, cannot be transferred to the Quezon City Jail as the detention area there had limited space and that the latter could not be detained there together with his men and the other Ampatuans.

Devanadera also said that Ampatuan, Jr. should not be detained in the company of ordinary criminals because he was considered as a "high risk criminal."

However, the DOJ chief declined to identify where Ampatuan, Jr. can be transferred and detained.

The relatives of the victims of the Maguindanao massacre earlier asked for the transfer of Ampatuan, Jr. as the latter allegedly was being afforded with special treatment at the NBI detention cell. (PNA)
