Bahrain opens major industrial city

RIYADH, Jan. 7 — Bahrain on Wednesday opened a major industrial city with an aim to boost trade and industrial opportunities and to create jobs in the country, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.
Minister of Trade and Industry Hassan Fakhru said the new city will accommodate 156 local and foreign companies with total investments of around 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, expecting the volume of investments to reach 7.6 billion U.S. dollars in a few years.
The minister also expected the new project to secure more job opportunities, expressing his hope that the available opportunities, currently estimated at 15,500, will increase to 34, 000 within three years.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Bahraini King Hamad Bin Isa al-Khalifa pointed out that the city enjoys several privileges like being close to Khalifa bin Salman port and Bahrain International Airport. (PNA/Xinhua)
