MANILA, Jan. 7 – Two persons were killed and five others were injured in two separate accidents along the Maharlika Highway in Quezon province late Wednesday, the Quezon Provincial Police Office (QPPO) said Thursday afternoon.

Police Officer 3 Allan Falqueza of Pagbilao Police Station in Quezon identified the fatalities as Emerlito Canaman while SPO3 Raul Paraiso of the Lopez Police Station identified the other fatality as van driver Mario Banico.

Falqueza said Canaman was traveling on a motorcycle with Manolito Sosimo along the Maharlika Highway towards Pagbilao town proper, when they swerved into the opposite lane and collided with a Mitsubishi Fuso truck driven by Honorio Sierte.

A police Report said Canaman suffered injuries in different parts of the body and was rushed to MMG Hospital in Lucena City but died while undergoing treatment. Police said they found no driver’s license on the victim.

Sosimo also suffered injuries but was declared out of danger. Sierte is presently detained at the Pagbilao town jail.

In Lopez town, a Manila-bound CUL passenger bus from the Bicol Region hit an oncoming cargo van at a curve on Maharlika Highway in Barangay Magsaysay.

Paraiso said Banico died while being treated in a local hospital due to multiple injuries.

Four van passengers were also injured and are presently confined at the Magsaysay Hospital. The bus driver voluntarily surrendered to the police, report said. (PNA) LAP/JCA
