PGMA to inaugurate Ifugao State U

LAMUT, Ifugao, Jan. 5 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will formally inaugurate on Wednesday the conversion of the Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry (ISCAF) into the Ifugao State University (ISU) in Barangay Nayon here.

The President, who signed Republic Act No. 9720 that converted the school into a university last year, will be the guest of honor and speaker at the inaugural rites.

On hand to welcome and assist the President are Ifugao Governor Teddy Baguilat Jr., Lone District Representative Solomon Chungalao, Lamut Mayor Francis Tenenan, Ifugao Mayors’ League president and Alfonso Lista Mayor Charles Cattiling, and ISU president Serafin Ngohayon.

Rep. Chungalao authored the conversion of the university through House Bill No. 4409, which earned favorable endorsement from the Senators and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The President’s visit here highlights her continuing reforms in the educational system to improve the country’s competitiveness. These include reducing the classroom backlog, higher pay and trainings for teachers, and focusing more on Science, Math and English subjects to create a globally competitive Filipino workforce.
