CAMP BGEN OSCAR M. FLORENDO, La Union, Jan. 2 — Chief Superintendent Constante Azares Jr., Ilocos Region Police director, disclosed on Friday the arrest of a suspected member of a big-time gun-for-hire syndicate in an entrapment operation in Barangay Sto. Nino, Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte.

In his report to Azares, Ilocos Norte Provincial Director Benjamin Luzad identified the arrested suspect as Isaac G. Casay, alias Bigso, 39, a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño, Nueva Era.

The arresting lawmen confiscated from the possession of the suspect a caliber 5.56 baby armalite rifle with defaced serial number.

Azares said that Casay is the principal suspect in two recent murder cases in Banna and Nueva Era towns, both in Ilocos Norte.

Assuming office only on December 29, Azares vowed to enforce a sustained implementation of the campaign to apprehend wanted persons and the drive against loose firearms in Region 1.

"We will leave no stone unturned and do the best we can to neutralize lawless elements and give justice to the victims and their families," Azares said.

Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Lusad said they are presently verifying the possible involvement of Casay in the other murder cases in Ilocos Norte.

“We are conducting follow-up investigation in order to identify Casay's other companions in his group,” Lusad added. (PNA) scs/lvm/Freddie G. Lazaro/rma
