ILOILO CITY, Dec. 29 -– Mayor Jerry P. Treñas will lead in the traditional gift giving to 25,500 poor families in this city on Wednesday (December 30) at the Freedom Grandstand.

The city council approved the supplemental budget for the gift giving last December 16 in support of the city mayor’s yearly program of giving holiday cheers to the city’s less fortunate families.

The mayor's program started nine years ago and continues every December as his administration’s commitment in giving Christmas gift to the families. Gift tickets were coursed through barangay leaders for distribution to families.

Last year, more than 20,000 families received the gift from the city mayor. The gift packages contain rice, sardines, noodles and other basic household commodities.

This year, the city mayor will give 500 tickets each to all city councilors.

The city government will also hold a separate gift giving to the senior citizens at the Jaro covered gymnasium at 2 p.m. tomorrow. (PNA)
