BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Dec. 29 — The city government is set to install close circuit television cameras (CCTVs) in at least 39 strategic locations here to monitor the flow of traffic and deter crimes in the city’s business centers, schools, churches, main streets and other public areas.

City Mayor Jose Enrique S. Garcia III said the CCTVs would be put up to maintain peace and order in the city as well as build confidence for investors.

The CCTV will effectively monitor not only the traffic situation in the busy intersections but help prevent crimes and at the same time document crimes in progress, Garcia said.

Garcia is also keen on encouraging telecommunication companies which will provide wireless network to include an income generating component in the system.

The wireless network, he said, would be very useful in any police operations for its accessibility within the system.

Police cars with television monitor can easily watch any particular scene in the city once the system is activated and accessed by authorized sectors, he added.

In the past, security cameras were already installed near banks and busy intersections in city but the project drew criticisms from few individuals alleging invasion of privacy. (PNA)
