MANILA, Dec. 24 – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday grounded a bus company after one of its units was involved in an accident that hurt 39 persons last Monday along EDSA in Quezon City.

Temporarily grounded were the buses of BOTSC. The LTFRB issued a cease and desist order four days after the accident took place.

“That is my Christmas gift to the bus company," LTFRB chairman Alberto Suansing told reporters.

The order was issued as early as Wednesday but it was not immediately served, Suansing said.

On Monday, December 21, a BOTSC bus (NCZ-761) went out of control while its driver was reportedly trying to outrun another bus. It later slammed into a concrete post in front of the SM City North EDSA mall in Barangay Bago Bantay.

At least 39 passengers were injured, including Divine Reyes-Caraecle of dzBB radio.

Suansing also warned abusive taxi and bus operators from cheating passengers during the Christmas rush, stressing that the LTFRB will deal with them after the holidays.

He advised passengers of overcharging bus firms to keep their tickets as a basis for complaints.

Suansing also enjoined passengers who were refused service by taxi drivers to jot down plate numbers of these cabs. (PNA) FFC/JCA
