Calabarzon police rewards informer

MANILA, Dec. 24 – The Philippine National Police-Police Regional Office (PNP PRO)-4 said on Thursday it handed a P140,000 reward to an informant who was instrumental for the arrest of a murder suspect by the Rizal police command.
Chief Supt. Perfecto Palad, Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal (Calabarzon) police director handed the cash reward to the confidential informant at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba City, Laguna “as payment” and in consideration of his good and favorable support to the PNP.
“The active participation of the community to resolve crime has gained significant headway in solving crime and in giving justice to the victims and those individual that cooperate and support the police will be rewarded and given due recognition,” Palad said.
After years in hiding, the suspect, Modesto Bongato, 57, a native of Barangay Torres, North Mapandan, Pangasinan, was arrested recently by the Baras police in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
Bongato was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Silverio Castillo, of the Dagupan City Regional Trial Court Branch 42.
Bongato was the prime suspect in the killing of Diony Agustin of Barangay Torres, North Mapandan, and was listed as one of the most wanted persons in Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1).
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) offered a P140,000 reward for his capture. (PNA)
