Pampanga awards 45 barangay health workers, 10 healthy places

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Dec. 18 –- Forty-five barangay health workers and 10 healthy places in Pampanga have been cited for their outstanding efforts and contributions in the pursuance of health development-related programs in the province.

Governor Eddie T. Panlilio, together with Department of Health (DOH) Regional Director Rio Magpantay and Provincial Health Office (PHO) officials presented the plaques of recognition to the outstanding workers and healthy places in ceremonies held recently at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here.

“The BHWs are our partners in the implementation of health programs and serve as frontliners in the delivery of health services directly to target beneficiaries in the communities,” Magpantay said.

Considered by the health office as unsung heroes, the BHWs perform their chosen tasks on a voluntary basis.

This coming year, the DOH plans to conduct trainings to further upgrade the knowledge and skills of BHWs, Magpantay said.

PHO Provincial BHW Coordinator Alice Miranda said that the outstanding BHWs were adjudged based on their performance, 50 percent; number of years in service, 30 percent; and good working relationship with the community and rural health unit (RHU) staff, 20 percent.

The BHW awardees are: Jilyn Marucut and Elvira Umali of Apalit; Corazon Panganiban, Rosario Quiambao and Cecilia Mendoza of Arayat; Christian David and Alma Mendoza of Bacolor; Estrelita Anicete, Yolanda Aga and Fe Atienzo of Candaba; Racquel Garcia and Josie Malit of Floridablanca; Gloria Sangil, Lourdes Salcedo and Rosemarie Diaz of Guagua; Emily Gaspan, Iluminada San Luis and Nilda Muli of Lubao; Reyna Esguerra, Ludy Buante and Robina Salunga of Mabalacat; Estrelita Sunga and Cresita Trinidad of Macabebe; Mario David and Perlita Figueroa of Magalang;

Estrella Gaddi and Teodora Castro of Masantol; Jennifer Salazar, Emilia Cayanan, Danilo Vergara and Teresita Garcia of Mexico; Ana Mandap of Minalin; Anicia Valencia and Ligaya Pineda of Porac; Belinda Balboa, Gemma Sanchez, Lourdes Carreon and Rodolfo Culala of the City of San Fernando; Hilaria Sumang and Emerenciana dela Cruz of San Luis; Gemma Punzalan of San Simon; Trinidad Samson of Sta. Ana; Triccia Joy Serafica of Sta. Rita; Socorro Manansala of Sto. Tomas, and Ranila Tolentino of Sasmuan.

Aside from plaques of recognition, all 45 awardees received P500 cash and blood pressure apparatus each from the provincial government and DOH, respectively.

Meanwhile, adjudged as 10 healthy places in the province were: San Miguel Corporation Brewery in the City of San Fernando as large-scale healthy workplace; Hotel Victoria de San Fernando as healthy hotel; Bale Capampangan, also in the City of San Fernando, as medium-scale healthy eating place; Sylvia’s Restaurant in Sindalan, City of San Fernando, as small-scale healthy eating place; Mely and Boy Dream Resort in Telabastagan, City of San Fernando, as healthy resort; Mother Theresa of Calcutta Medical Center in Maimpis, City of San Fernando, as healthy hospital; San Basilio Elementary School in Sta. Rita town, as healthy school; Lailen’s Pastries in Sta. Lucia, City of San Fernando, as small-scale healthy workplace; and Fortune’s Seafood Restaurant in the City of San Fernando as large- scale healthy place. (PNA)
