MANILA, Dec. 17 – An Abu Sayyaf, who bolted the Basilan Provincial Jail, was recaptured Wednesday night, a police official said.

Basilan Provincial Police Office (PPO) director Senior Supt. Abubakar Tulawie said Aseng Sahibul, a member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf group, was arrested by combined elements of the Basilan PPO, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Isabela City Police Station.

Tulawie said Sahibul did not resist when cornered in Barangay Kapatagan Grande in Isabela City at around 7:15 p.m.

He said Sahibul, who carries P200,000 reward for his neutralization, was now back behind bars at the Isabela City Police Station.

Sahibul was among the 31 inmates sprung out of the Basilan jail located in Isabela City last Dec. 13 when more or less 30 fully-armed men stormed the Basilan Provincial Jail.

He was the third escapees to be neutralized, one was killed during operation while another one was recaptured on Monday.

Authorities expressed belief that either the Abu Sayyaf group or rogue members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front were behind the jail break after MILF and ASG inmates were among the escapee.

Among those who escaped were MILF commanders Laksaw Asnawi and Kamsa Limaya, who were tagged as among those who ambushed personnel of the Philippine Marines in July 2007 in Al Barkha town, Basilan that resulted in the killing of 14 soldiers, 10 of whom were beheaded.(PNA) RMA/MM
