Influenza A(H1N1) vaccine to be introduced in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Dec. 14 — The A(H1N1) flu vaccine is coming to Nepal soon, The Rising Nepal reported on Monday.

The country will receive the vaccine, at the latest, by the second week of January 2010 said Dr. Shayam Sundar Mishra, director of the Avian Influenza Control Project at the Department of Health Services.

The World Health Organization had already requested to the Ministry of Health and Population to identify the priority groups of the country, said the newspaper.

Front line medical health workers and lab technicians have been included in the top priority list. Similarly, people having low immunity power, pregnant women and children under five years of age are also taken as a priority group.

According to the report, Nepal is already selected as priority country for the vaccination. Over 90 least developed countries in the world are receiving the vaccination free of cost, said the daily. (PNA/Xinhua)
