LUBAO, Pampanga, Dec. 1 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Tuesday thanked her "cabalens" (province mates) for their continued support to her administration.

In her short message before thousands of local residents in front of St. Agustin Church in Barangay San Nicolas 1 here, the President expressed her deep appreciation to the unwavering support of her cabalens in the midst of strong criticisms against her bid to run in the congressional seat.

“To my dear constituents, thank you very much for all your support,” the President said in "Kapampangan" dialect as she formally announced her intention to represent the province’s second district.

The Chief Executive said that while she is very much looking forward to stepping down as President of the Philippines, she decided to respond affirmatively to the clamor of her cabalens.

“I had thought about returning to teaching or joining a non-profit organization involved in environment or women’s issues but I realized that I am not ready to step down completely in my public service,” the President said amid the thunderous cheers from her province mates.

The Chief Executive said she decided to run again in order to continuously serve the people of Pampanga.

She assured her cabalens that she would continue to champion the needs and concerns of the indigents.

And these are the underlying reasons why the Kapampangans encouraged the President to continue serving them even at the capacity of a congresswoman.

In spite of the various programs and services delivered by the national government, they said it is still not enough to attain the full development of the province.

Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda expressed optimism that with the President as their next congresswoman would continue all the projects and programs she pursued in the province.

"Thank you, Madame President for all your support. We would like to assure that we will support you 100 percent in your candidacy,” Pineda said.

Floridablanca Mayor Eduardo Guerrero also thanked the President for the infrastructure projects which improve the socio-economic development of the province.

Presidential son and incumbent Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, for his part, said the President is the best leader, great mother and best person that could bring the province into greater heights. (PNA)
