MANILA, Nov. 28 —- The government of Japan has officially accepted to become a member of the International Contact Group (ICG) on the Mindanao peace process, Japanese ambassador Makoto Katsura announced on Friday.

”The Government of Japan accepts your invitation for Japan to become a member of the International Contact Group,” Katsura said in his November 27 letter to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Rafael Seguis, the chairman of the government panel in the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Seguis had invited Japan’s participation following a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on November 16, which Japan also attended.

Membership in the ICG is under the framework of a GRP-MILF agreement signed in September 15 this year.

Turkey had earlier accepted the same invitation.(PNA)
