MANILA, Nov. 27 – Justice Acting Secretary and concurrent Solicitor General Agnes Devanadera on Friday afternoon said that the department has many witnesses who pointed to Datu Unsay, Maguindanao Mayor Andal Ampatuan, Jr. as one of those directly involved in the Maguindanao massacre.

Ampatuan, Jr. is the son of Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan, Sr. and the brother of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Governor Zaldy Ampatuan.

According to Devanadera, the witnesses saw Ampatuan at the scene of the crime shooting the victims by himself.

Devanadera said that nine suspects, who are all Ampatuans, are now under investigation in connection with the gruesome killings that claimed the lives of some 57 civilians, including two women lawyers and some mediamen in Maguindanao last Monday.

She said that the suspects can be arrested in the sense that a criminal charge for multiple murder is a non-bailable offense.

"We expect that more suspects will be charged due to the huge volume of firearms that were seized following the hot pursuit of the suspects," Devanadera said.

Devanadera also signed a memoradum order to include in the watchlist of the Bureau of Immigration the personalities involved in the massacre case. (PNA)
