ILOILO CITY, Nov. 26 – The city council here passed two resolutions Wednesday afternoon condemning the Monday massacre in Maguindanao that killed more than 50 persons including women and media practitioners.
Authored by Councilor Armand Parcon, the first resolution is asking President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to act immediately and bring to justice the perpetrators who are allegedly members of a private army of the Ampatuan family, notably Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. and his son, Ampatuan town Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr.
Parcon said the warlords in Mindanao have brought the country down through shameless and monster-like killings never before seen in the history of the country.
The second resolution also authored by Parcon and co-authored by councilor Ely Estante, expresses sympathy and condolence to the families of the victims some of whom have family roots in Iloilo and the rest of Panay Island.
The victims, mostly belonging to the Mangudadatu family in Maguindanao, are being accompanied by the media in filing the certificate of candidacy (COC) of Buluan Vice Mayor Ismael “Toto” Mangudadatu who is running for governor of Maguindanao. The convoy was stopped and waylaid by armed men at the boundary of Ampatuan and Shariff Aguak towns.
The Ampatuan and Mangudadatu families are bitter political enemies even though both belong to the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party.
Parcon said the clan war in Maguindanao has involved many innocents including the media and it is about time the government takes concrete action against lawlessness. (PNA)
