MANILA, Nov. 24 — The Philippines does its own share of hyping the 2010 Fifa World Cup fever when it stages a fiesta-like Diski Night on December 8 at the posh 1 ESPLANADE near the SM Mall of Asia.
The affair kicks off a series of promotional events in the country, eventually culminating in the staging of the World Cup in South Africa in June next year.
Diski is the African term for football.
Philippine Football Federation (PFF) secretary-general Cyrill Dofitas, former RP team head coach and now PFF technical director Aris Caslib and Candice Grey, co-founder and head coach of the Futbol Funatics Soccer Camp for Kids, were at the weekly PSA Forum Tuesday at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch to talk about the special night that starts at 6 p.m.
“Basically, we’re holding the Diski Night as a football-awareness event culminating into the 2010 Fifa World Cup, which we all know, offers the highest form of football competition in the world,” said Dofitas in the session presented by Outlast Battery, PAGCOR and Accel.
Among the activities lined up, according to Grey are a football clinic for underprivileged kids, an art and football memorabilia auction, an AVP of the 2010 World Cup, a dinner cocktail and lots of dances.
Several booths will also be placed in the venue, where representatives of the 32 countries that qualified are going to make their respective presentations.
Expected to grace the event are PFF president Jose Mari Martinez and South African Ambassador to the Philippines Pieter Andries Vermeulin. (PNA) vcs/LOR
