Two French aid workers abducted in Central Africa

PARIS, Nov. 24 — Two French aid workers have been abducted by a group of unknown armed men in northeast of Central Africa, French government confirmed Monday and urged a quick release.
Some 20 gunmen kidnapped them on Sunday evening in the town of Birao on the border with Chad and Sudan, said the French aiding organization Triangle that the snatched men worked for.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement it "condemns this latest criminal act which once again hits aid workers in a region where their assistance to the population is crucial."
France`s Emergency Department has begun contacts with all concerned parties, the ministry said, meanwhile demanding a " unconditional and immediate" release.
The latest abduction is the third one happened to overseas French aid workers in recent two months. Two employers working for International Committee of the Red Cross were seized respectively on Nov. 9 in Chad and on Oct. 11 in Sudan.
Triangle, a non-government humanitarian organization, has started aiding programs in the Republic of Central Africa since 2007 with 11 European workers and 80 native employers. (PNA/Antara)
