PNP expands manhunt for road rage shooter

November 20, 2009 2:58 pm

MANILA, Nov. 20 — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has issued an all points bulletin (APB) for Jason Ivler, a key suspect in the shooting of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. of the Office of the Executive Secretary.

PNP Chief, Director General Jesus A. Verzosa directed the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Aviation Security Group (ASG) to join the manhunt for the suspect described as “armed and dangerous.”

Printouts of Ivler’s photo in the files of QCPD have been circulated to different PNP units in Metro Manila as well as in major airports and seaports to assist in the manhunt for the suspect.

Ivler is believed to be the gunman who shot and killed Ebarle Jr., 27, during a traffic altercation at the corner of Boni Serrano and Granada Streets in Quezon City shortly before midnight last November 18, 2009.

Initial investigation as gathered from witnesses identified Ivler as the driver of a Honda CRV with diplomatic license plates 20903 who shot Ebarle Jr. who was then behind the wheel of a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Ebarle suffered three gunshot wounds from a caliber .45 handgun and died on the spot before paramedics can administer first aid treatment.

The suspect’s stepfather, Stephen Pollard, an executive of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and registered owner of the Honda CRV with diplomatic license plates 20903 has communicated with QCPD investigators and vowed to assist in locating Jason who is believed to be still in Metro Manila and still in possession of the fatal weapon used in shooting Ebarle Jr.

Records from the PNP Firearms and Explosives Division show there are no firearms registered under Jason Ivler’s name.

Verzosa expressed confidence a major breakthrough in the investigation is forthcoming. He said Ivler’s movement is being closely monitored thru the NCRPO’s network of CCTV cameras installed in strategic locations around Metro Manila.

Verzosa clarified that dependents of ADB officials do not enjoy similar diplomatic immunity accorded to members of the diplomatic community.

Jason Ivler figured in a fatal car accident in 2004 along the C5–Ortigas flyover wherein Undersecretary Nestor Ponce Jr. was killed.

Ivler was charged in court and a hold departure order was issued against him. He was later arrested by NBI and Immigration agents in Zamboanga City while about to sail for Malaysia. (PNA)
