Dumaguete beauty tilt contestants push for climate change mitigation

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 19 –Sixteen candidates vying for the crown of Miss Teen and Miss Dumaguete have vwoed to support and help in the campaign in mitigating the effects of climate change.
The candidates were presented to the members of the local media during a press conference held at Perpetual Help Community Cooperative Incorporated Conference Hall recently.
The convenor of the Miss Teen and Miss Dumaguete committee, Dr. Profetiza Lim, said the theme this year focused on environmental issues following the series of calamities experienced in some parts of the country and the effects of global warming.
She said these candidates should be informed and educated on the importance of the environment and encourage them to be part in the preservation and conservation of the environment.
Eight lovely ladies vying for Miss Teen Dumaguete are from different secondary schools while another group of eight contestants competing for the Miss Dumaguete title are representing their respective barangays.
Mayor Agustin Perdices, who was present during the press conference challenged the contestants to help in the campaign for clean and honest elections next year.
He also encouraged them to help the city government and the Department of Education in the campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the school campuses.
The search for Miss Dumaguete and Teen Dumaguete 2009 talent night will be held on Nov. 20 while the pageant night will be on Nov. 23 as part of the highlights of this year’s charter day and city fiesta anniversary celebrations. (PNA) RMA/jfp/MARICAR ARANAS
