(Metro News) QC cops, woman killed in shootout

MANILA, Nov. 17 – Two policemen of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and a woman were killed during a shootout in Quezon City at midnight Monday, QCPD officials said on Tuesday.

Two bystanders were seriously wounded in the shootout that stemmed from a funeral wake quarrel.

Senior Inspector Rey Z. Medina of the QCPD Station 3-Barangay Bahay Toro Police Community Precinct (PCP) said the incident happened in Barangay Talipapa along Tandang Sora Avenue, Novaliches, Quezon City.

Medina identified the fatalities as SPO1 Hassan Baharan and PO2 Joaquin Angid. In critical condition at the Lanting General Hospital was PO2 Ayub Abdullah.

Two bystanders, identified as alias “Apeng” and alias “Romy” were hit by a stray bullet. They were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) in Diliman, Quezon City.

Initial investigation showed Alit and Abdullah, who were on board QCPD Mobile Car SB07 were part of a police team pursuing Baharan, who allegedly shot at a woman in Sitio Mendez in Baesa district.

Initial investigation showed Baharan is also allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.

The pursuit ended along Tandang Sora Avenue where Baharan allegedly fired at his pursuers, prompting them to fire back. One of Baharan’s shots, however, hit Alit in the body.

Medina said Baharan, who was being investigated for his alleged involvement in illegal drug activities, shot dead his teenaged girlfriend, Nina Ramos, 17, after a they quarreled during a funeral wake of Baharan’s relative. (PNA)V3/JCA
