GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Nov. 11 The Department of Education (DepEd) Region 12 has finally moved to its new home at the designated regional administrative hub in Koronadal City following the completion of its P31 million new office building.
Luz Almeda, DepEd Region 12 director, said they formally reported for office at the new three-storey edifice Wednesday after holding office during the last three years at a building located inside the DepEd-South Cotabato division compound.
Almeda said the new building, which stands elegantly with its glass paneled walls, mainly symbolizes their efforts to provide the best services and quality education for students and schoolchildren in Region 12.
This is a very significant development for all of us and were hoping that this move will further enable us to perform better, she said.
DepEd Region 12s new regional office building was the first building ever constructed at a regional center being developed by the city government of Koronadal located along the national highway in Barangay Carpenter Hill.
It was initially inaugurated Tuesday morning in simple rites attended by top education officials, local government executives and officials of other government agencies in the region.
The regional center is located about 3.5 kilometers from Koronadals main commercial center but just about a kilometer away from the new P200 million city government complex, which is currently under construction.
Almeda said their full transfer to their new office in Koronadal is mainly in compliance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyos directives that designated Koronadal City as the new regional administrative seat and center of the reconfigured Region 12.
Region 12 covers the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, North Cotabato and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, Kidapawan and Cotabato.
The President issued Executive Order 304 on March 30, 2004, affirming Koronadal City as the seat of Region 12 as provided for under Executive Order 429 issued in 1990 by then President Corazon Aquino.(PNA)
