KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 10 — Malaysia's Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Bernard Giluk Dompok will pay a working visit to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany from November 12 to 20 to promote market access for palm oil and timber products.

A statement issued by the ministry said on Tuesday that the visit was intended to strengthen ties with cabinet ministers in Europe as well as improve market access for palm oil and timber products.

Representatives from the ministry, Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Malaysian Palm Oil Council, Malaysian Timber Council, Malaysian Timber Certification Council, Agriculture Department of Sarawak State in East Malaysia and industry players are joining the delegation.

The Europe mission is expected to disseminate information on efforts currently undertaken by the ministry on the issue of palm oil and timber sustainability while promoting a positive image for Malaysia's commodities.

Being one of the top palm oil producers in the world, Malaysia has been receiving criticism from abroad, accusing it of allowing deforestation to take place in order to pave ways for oil palm plantation.

According to the statement, Dompok will address three forums on the "Sustainability of Palm Oil". (PNA/Xinhua) vcs/utb
