ILOILO CITY, Nov. 6 — The National Food Authority (NFA) has assured consumers in Western Visayas of enough rice buffer stocks that will last until early next year.

NFA assistant regional director Vilma Zarraga said that right now they have 5,080,883 bags of rice that would serve as buffer stock for 84 days.

Of the total number of bags, the NFA has 1.2 million of bags in the warehouses and 2.27 million in the households. The rice traders also have 1.58 million stocks of rice.

“We have sufficient supply especially because we have just finished the first cropping harvest,” Zarraga said.

She said that the buying price of farm rice now is P13.00 per kilo while the NFA buying price is P17.00 per kilo.

The NFA is still delivering rice stocks to the "Tindahan Natin" Outlets (TNOs) and "Tindahan ng Parokya" to ensure that there will be rice for indigents.

The NFA has distributed 552,571 bags of rice to the TNOs. These outlets sold the NFA rice at P18.25. (PNA)
