Hillary Clinton discusses ME peace process with Mubarak

CAIRO, Nov. 4 — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who arrived in Cairo on Tuesday night, held talks on Wednesday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss the latest efforts aiming at reviving stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, Nile TV reported.

The talks come two days after Clinton declared siding with Israel as regards the issue of settlement and the resumption of the peace talks.

On Saturday, Clinton stressed that a full Israeli settlement freeze was at no stage a precondition to the resumption of Israeli- Palestinian negotiations.

"The peace process is getting through a critical stage" Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Abul Gheit told a press conference, "We want to have guarantees for the Palestinians that ensure them that these negotiations would not be used to waste time or to achieve Israeli objectives against them." (PNA/Xinhua)
