Manila, November 2 —- Malacanang has a deep bench of government career and insider officials to fill-up positions reportedly set to be vacated by Cabinet-level officials who have expressed interest to run for elective posts in the 2010 elections.

Press Secretary Cerge M. Remonde told a radio interview on Monday there are about 15 Cabinet-level officials who are reportedly set to run for different positions in the forthcoming 2010 elections.

The Palace, he pointed out is inclined to appoint undersecretaries or other career officials to fill-up the soon-to-be-vacated posts in different offices in government with the expected resignation of Cabinet-level officials. Election rules require the resignation of an appointive government official upon the filing of certificate of candidacy with the Commission on Elections.

Remonde, however, stressed he is not among the 15 Cabinet-level officials who are reportedly poised to cast their lots in the political arena.

He added the Palace will opt for "insiders" to replace these Cabinet officials as shown by the recent appointment of former Presidential Adviser on New Government Center (PANGC) Secretary Victor Domingo vice public works and highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr.

According to Remonde, he is not seeking a congressional seat in Cebu in the coming elections but will instead go back to private sector after President Arroyo steps down on June 2010.

On Sunday, Secretary to the Cabinet Silvestre Bello III said that the Lakas-Kampi-CMD moved the national convention of the party on November 19 instead of November 12.

According to Bello, deputy secretary-general of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, the whole slate of the party from president down to senatorial line-up will be presented to the party members during the national convention to be held in Manila instead of Cebu City.

He also said the runningmate of Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr., the administration party’s standard bearer, will be chosen during the convention.

Bello added Lakas-Kampi-CMD is also open to coalesce with any other party on the basis of party principles and visions.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that the filing of the certificates of candidacy for different positions in the coming 2010 elections is from November 20-30.

The campaign period for the national position will start from February 9 while the campaign for the local position will start on March 26.(PNA)
