MANILA, Oct. 23 – Quezon City Mayor Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. on Friday said the Quezon City government is extending financial assistance to provinces in Northern Luzon affected by typhoon “Pepeng.”

Belmonte said in a letter to the QC council to authorize him to extend the financial assistance before it goes on a recess.

Quezon City maybe reeling from the devastation of tropical storm “Ondoy,” but Belmonte said that it was fitting and proper “to share the city’s fruits of economic development.”

Recipients of QC’s financial assistance in Northern Luzon will include Baguio, Pangasinan and Cagayan Valley.

This is not the first time that the QC government helped other local government units.

In 2008, the city government extended financial assistance to the victims of super typhoon Frank in the Visayas region, particularly Aklan, Iloilo and Capiz.

The city government also provided financial aid and social assistance to several typhoon-affected provinces in the Bicol region, including Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Legaspi City and Catanduanes.

Belmonte also provided relief goods to the typhoon-stricken residents of the towns of Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija and Dingalan in Aurora provinces in January 2005.

The city government also donated a two-storey, eight-classroom school building for the victims of the mudslide in Barangay Ginsaugon in Southern Leyte.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo City government has extended a P1 million financial assistance to QC flood victims, Belmonte said. (PNA)
