Qatar, UNPF sign cooperation deal

DOHA, Oct. 22 — The United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) and Qatar signed Wednesday a cooperation agreement on technical support programs for the population and development, state-owned Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The two-year agreement signed on the sidelines of the Conference of Population Policies that wrapped up in Doha Wednesday, aims to boost cooperation between Qatar and the international fund on following up population policies in the oil- rich country.

The Conference of Population Policies wrapped up Wednesday after concluding a document on population policies which aim to strike balance between population increase and sustainable development in the country.

The document addressed several key issues like population, manpower, education, human resources development, health, woman empowerment, environment and sustainable development.

Qatar's total population reached 1.9 million according to the latest census conducted by the Qatari Interior Ministry in June, 2009. (PNA/Xinhua)
