Bayawan City’s original recipe named winner in Lutong Garbo competition

DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 21 — Bayawan City’s original recipe "Ginata-ang Guya Mais na may Hipon" bested 15 other entries during the 4th "Lutong Garbo" competition of the Negros Oriental’s Buglasan Festival.

The Lutong Garbo, held over the weekend, had 16 entries that were judged not just by their taste but also on the preparation and presentation of each recipe.

A cash prize worth P10,000 was awarded to Bayawan City winning recipe.

The second place winner was the "Buntog Abobaho" with "Dabong" Salad with cash award of P8,000 while 3rd place winner was the Native Chicken Breast in Coco Cream of the municipality of Mabinay, which received P6,000.

The Lutong Garbo competition is aimed at developing and promoting local recipes using ingredients that can be found in the community. The winning recipe will also be offered to some of the restaurants in the province.

Governor Emilio Macias II said during the Farm Family Congress that Negros Oriental has rich soil that anything that planted on the ground would surely bear fruit.

He said the evidence can be seen during the congress wherein different farm produce coming the different towns and cities of the province are on display.

He said no one would go hungry given the right technology and education on organic farming and upland fishery.

This is one of the reasons for strengthening and expansion of the upland fisheries program which includes high breed tilapia, fresh water prawn, cray fish and pangasius. These are considered alternative source of protein aside from fish.

The expanded upland fishery and organic farming projects are now introduced at the Government Agriculture Development Center (GADCent) and Barangay Agriculture Development Centers in the different areas of the province. (PNA) FFC/jfp/Maricar Aranas
