BERLIN, Oct. 17 — A leading German media watchdog on Saturday criticized false news reports on Iran, according to the website of the Berlin-based daily junge welt.

The chairwoman of Arbeiterfotografie, Anneliese Fikentscher, lambasted efforts by the German media "to make a bogeyman out of Iran" by providing false news reports.

She pointed out wrong translations of speeches made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had been attributed to him.

Fikentscher added German mainstream media, among them German press agency dpa and German public television network ZDF, had acknowledged the distortion of Ahmadinejad quotes about Israel.

Dpa and ZDF had falsely quoted the Iranian president as saying Israel should be "wiped off the map."

Fikentscher also lashed out at German media for suggesting Tehran was building nuclear weapons when in fact it had not been proven.

German's Zionist lobby has repeatedly attacked Arbeiterfotografie for exposing false and untrue media reports on Iran. (PNA/IRNA)
