DAVAO CITY, Oct. 15 — In support to the anti-poverty campaign of the government, the Department of Social Worker and Development (DSWD) in the Davao Region will conduct simultaneous cluster meetings and assemblies of beneficiaries of "Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program" (4Ps), Self Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran Program (SEA-K) and "Tindahan Natin" Project.

DSWD regional director Ester Acebedo-Versoza said these activities were lined up in the observance of the National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty (NWOEP), where the Philippine Government joins the United Nations in its Stand United, Fight Poverty (SUFP) Campaign slated on October 16-18.

Now in its fourth year, Versoza said SUFP is a three-day global mobilization that aims to send a loud and clear message to world leaders and decision-makers to take urgent action to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Further, it hopes to break the Guinness World Record for attaining the largest number of people participating in a single event.

The anti-poverty campaign focuses on four major Millennium Development Goals: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; achieve universal primary education; improve maternal health; and combat HIV/AIDS, she said.

According to the UN, the achievement of the MDGs remains a priority on the global political and public agenda. The campaign aims to convey the urgency of attaining the MDGs and end extreme poverty by 2015.

Versoza said the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) leaders and volunteers and some students in Sto. Tomas and Talaingod in Davao del Norte will participate in the exhibits, creative presentations and various competitions in Barangay Sto. Nino, Talaingod.
