JAKARTA, Oct. 13 — Indonesia attempted to increase volume of its non-oil and gas export which has declined by the global financial crisis, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said here Tuesday.
Indonesia has registered weakening of its non-oil and gas overseas sales by 18.3 percent to 60 billion US dollars in the first eight months of this year, according to the minister.
One of the step to be taken was a trade expo to tap international buyers, said Pangestu. "Trade Expo Indonesia which is at international class may boost national export," she said in a press conference at her office here.
The event would be conducted here in Jakarta Fair compound from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, 2009. The expo would promote 200 new types and brands of Indonesia's products, she said.
"Indonesia is ready to compete with the other international exhibition and is optimistic that this step could boost national export," said Pangestu.
Indonesia non-oil and gas export in 2008 was valued at 100.45 billion USD, according to the National Statistic Bureau.
The weakening of the global economy has sapped demand and prices of Indonesia's export products, such as palm oil, rubber, textiles, and fabricated products, since October last year.
Indonesia is the world's biggest palm oil producer and the world 's second biggest rubber maker. (PNA/Xinhua) vcs/utb
