DAVAO CITY, Oct. 11 — The Task Force Davao (TFD) is equipped with five sea crafts to secure Davao Gulf areas from terror attacks.

TF Davao spokesman Major Medel Aguilar said the sea crafts will patrol regularly the 60-kilometer shoreline of the Davao Gulf within the city's area of responsibility. They are capable of patrolling the city coast and also the nearby Island Garden City of Samal.

"Aside from the city limits, we can conduct regular patrols now even on the city's share of the Davao Gulf," he said.

Aguilar said TFD has also shifted back its operation to its primary mandate, which is to combat terrorism nearly six months after it took part in the counter-insurgency operations in Paquibato district on orders of the military high command.

He said the shift to their primary mandate will give the contingent more focus in terms of manpower and hardware in guarding the city from terror attacks.

Aguilar said TF Davao will also continue to reach out to Moro and Christian communities to solicit the support of the residents to deny safe haven for terrorists.

He said despite the shift of priorities, TF Davao will continue to support the humanitarian programs it started in Paquibato district.

He said TF Davao has assisted 282 youths in Paquibato District through the short-term technical courses conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Training Administration (TESDA).

"We are exploring ways to assist the 282 youths in Paquibato. These individuals have the potential to be productive citizens of their community, if they have the skills to support their keep," Aguilar said.

The insurgency campaign in Paquibato District and other hinterland barangays of the city is pursued by the 69th Infantry Battalion under the leadership of Colonel Eduardo del Rosario, commanding officer of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, Augilar further said. (PNA) FFC/JSGD/lvp
