ZAMBOANGA CITY, Oct. 8 — The Philippine Army has turned over three peace and development projects worth P4.5 million to the local government of Maco town in Compostela Valley province, military officials said.

Lt. Col. Teodoro Batillo of the Army Engineering Battalion, said the peace projects were turned over around on Tuesday which are part of the Kalayaan Sa Barangay Projects (KBP).

Batillo said the projects include three units of school buildings, one day care center and a Level II water system, which were jointly undertaken by municipal government of Maco, military and other government line agencies.

Batillo said the projects were turned over to Barangay Malamodao chairwoman Noemi Gadong in the presence of Maco municipal mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire Rimando, who led the inauguration of the projects.

Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu, chief of the 10th Infantry Division, lauded the soldiers, Maco town officials and other stakeholders who made the peace efforts successful.

“This is our way of showing the people that our government and the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) are serious in bringing peace to the country. The combination of peace and development projects as part of civil military operation is working effectively for us to meet the target goal in Region 11 and parts of Region 12,” Mapagu said.

“The road networks promised by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in her state of the nation address and projects under the Kalayaan sa Barangay in the form of school buildings, water system, rural electrification and health centers are backing up the military in this pursuit,” he added.

He said Region 11 is one of the national priority areas of the government in peace and development efforts. (PNA)
