‘Oplan Sagip Bayan’ donations reach P15M

MANILA, Oct. 3 — The Presidential Management Staff (PMS) today reported it received P7.411 million worth of donations for “Oplan Sagip Bayan”, raising cumulative donations to P15.136 million since the relief program was initiated last week by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Donations were foodstuff and non-food relief items like clothes and cleaning aids.

Major donations came from Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co., P5 million in cash; Asia America Initiative, water purifiers and sachets worth P2.27 million; Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd, P1.013 million worth of rice and mineral water;

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM), P962,000 worth of plastic mats; food items from the PNOC Exploration Corp. worth P880,769; National Food Authority (NFA) Central Office with 500 sacks of rice worth P625,000; Coca Cola Co. with 160 cases of beverages and mineral water worth P500,000;

Euro Med Laboratories Phils. Inc. with P376,320 worth of distilled water; Liwayway Marketing Corp. with P332,400 worth of bread; M/Sgt. Arnel Florian Dado with P250,000 worth of groceries; Mayor Kimi Cojuangco with P225,000 worth of t-shirts and canned goods; and

Pampanga Mayors’ League with hamburgers worth P178,000; and and Office of the Vice President with assorted food items worth P161,576.

In his report to the President, PMS Chief Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, some 325 volunteers helped in repacking relief goods. Most of these were students from San Beda and Don Bosco Mandaluyong and parishioners from San Roque Parish. The cumulative number of volunteers reached 2,520, he added.

The 12,598 bags of repacked relief goods were sent to 15 areas benefiting 68,778 families.

Among the recipients were residents of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan Inc. in Cainta; Municipal Hall of Cainta; Barangay San Juan Taytay; Barangay 905 Punta Manila; Maysulao Calumpit, Bulacan; Biñan, Laguna, Calumpit, Bulacan; Taytay; Barangay Bagbag in Novaliches, Q.C. and Taguig-Katipunan Village.
