Ondoy affects 1,039 Negrenses

BACOLOD CITY, Oct 2 – Tropical storm Ondoy, that hit the country last weekend, affected five local government units from southern Negros Occidental and displaced 218 families or 1, 039 persons, the Provincial Disaster Management Division Team (PDMT) Office Friday said.

No casualty was reported, but 17 houses were totally destroyed and 169 more partially damaged from 22 affected barangays of Isabela, Valladolid, Sipalay City, Hinigaran, and Hinoba-an City.

Meanwhile, PDMT warned the fishermen to suspend sea venture as the entire Visayan seas will have about a two-meter high waves that poses eminent danger to any fishing and sea travel activities especially on sea crafts.

The warning has been issued amid threats of typhoon Pepeng (international name: Parma) which has already affected Camarines provinces, Catanduanes, Albay and Quezon including Polilio Island and Aurora province, the PDMT said. (PNA)
