RP cities leaders meet to identify success in governance project

MANILA, Sept. 16 — Fifteen Philippine cities that are part of the British-funded Transparent Accountable Governance Project meet Wednesday in nearby Makati City to share experiences in implementing assigned projects and identify success factors.

Involved are nine cities in Mindanao and the rest in Luzon and the Visayas. The project is implemented by The Asia Foundation.

The British embassy said representatives will also identify the challenges in improving transparency in governance and in developing partnerships with the private sectors.

Experts will discuss the challenges of urbanization, climate change and disaster risk management, as well as the global economic crisis.

British ambassador Stephen Lillie addresses the conference.

Jose Ma. Concepcion, Chairman of RFM Food Corporation, delivers the keynote speech.

Other invited speakers include Dr. Nathaniel Von Einsedel of Urban Partnerships Foundation, who will discuss urbanization, Dr. Juan Pulhin, a member of the Nobel Laureate Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who will talk about climate change and disaster risk management, and Dr. Jorge Tigno, from University of the Philippines, who will discuss migration and adjusting to the global economic crisis.
