DUMAGUETE CITY, Sept. 9 – Globe Telecommunications is looking at offering an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training program for public school teachers in Negros Oriental.
The ICT-aided teaching program will complement the recent partnership inked by Globe Telecom with 25 public high schools in the province, said Jeffrey Tarayao, the company’s Corporate Communications chief.
During a recent visit here, Globe Telecom launched its program that provides these schools with free Internet access for one year, in cooperation with the different local government units that funded the needed structures such as computer units.
According to Tarayao, the ICT teacher training program will focus not just on the basics of computer use and the Internet but on platforms for subjects like Math, English and Science as well.
The Coalition for Better Education-Visayas is being eyed as a key player in the ICT-aided program for teachers but the partnership has yet to be forged, he added.
Twenty-five schools in Dumaguete will be the first to benefit from the program which can hopefully be launched before the year ends, said Tarayao.
Schools that are covered by the Globe Telecom’s free Internet for Schools Program (ISP) shall be prioritized.
Tarayao said Globe Telecom is targeting public high schools as its beneficiaries to the ISP as ICT subjects are incorporated in their curriculum.
Of the 2,600 public high schools in the country that have Internet access, 950 of these are powered by Globe Telecom, he added. (PNA) LAP/JFP
