BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan, Sept. 3 -– The provincial government is expecting some 1.5 million tourists to flock Boracay Island in 2015.
Aklan provincial governor Carlito Marquez said the province is confident of reaching the goal because of the on-going development at the Kalibo International Airport and the pouring in of investors in Boracay.
"Currently, we are developing Boracay by having a P2.5 million bond flotation projects as part of our added tourism infrastructure," said Marquez.
Three years ago, Marquez predicted that at least one million tourists would visit Boracay in 2010.
Local tourism officials however said that the projection may not be possible because of the global recession and the influenza A(H1N1) scare.
With the on-going developments however, local tourism officials believed that Boracay tourist arrivals might just reach the 900,000 mark in 2010.
Last year Boracay accommodated 600,000 tourists.
Around 800,000 tourists are projected to visit this resort island this year. (PNA)
