MANILA, Sept. 2 — Second Division chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer has junked the motion filed on Wednesday asking for the suspension of revision of the votes in the 2007 gubernatorial polls.

Ferrer said that it is not the problem of the commission, if the protestee and the protestants can no longer support their expenses.

“We’re not concerned about the financial capability of litigants. It’s not our problem,” he said.

Ferrer said that Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio should ask the help of his supporters to be able to come up with funds to finance their campaign.

“He has been bragging that he has many volunteers, maybe they can help him,” the Comelec official said.

On Wednesday, Panlilio filed a manifestation and motion seeking to suspend the on-going revision for three weeks starting on September 7, 2009.

He cited the lack of funds in filing the pleading.

Panlilio said that since the start of the revision, which was on August 12, they have spent more than P500,000, including the per diems of their revisors and other added costs such as photocopying, among others.

The Comelec started the recount after the Supreme Court ordered the former to proceed when it ruled in favor of petitioner Lilia Pineda, the closest rival of Panlilio in the Pampanga gubernatorial race two years ago. (PNA) DCT/FGP/utb
