Noynoy still undecided on whether to run for president; to undergo 'spiritual retreat'

MANILA, September 2 — Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is still undecided on whether to accept the challenge and run for president in 2010 after Senator Mar Roxas gave way to him to be the standard bearer of the Liberal Party (LP).

Sen. Aquino said in his press conference at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan around 6 p.m. Wednesday that it was not easy for him to make such an immediate decision to accept the challenge to become the front runner of LP in the 2010 elections.

He also said that he would undergo a "spiritual retreat" tomorrow before deciding if he would run as president in the coming polls.

Aquino said he and his family remain apprehensive about the idea of running for the highest position in the land.

He acknowledged the sacrifice of Roxas, his partymate, who announced his withdrawal of his plan to run for president in 2010 to give way to Aquino.

But Aquino stressed that if he would decide to run for president, his running mate would be Sen. Roxas.

“Roxas has been preparing for this. He has very, very good ideas how to reform the country and the system. I would be a fool not to have him as a partner, as an ally,” he told reporters before the press conference. (PNA)
