MANILA, Sept. 1 — The House of Representatives adjourned session early Tuesday following the death of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) leader and Executive Minister Erano "Ka Erdy" Manalo.

After convening at 4 p.m., members of the Lower Chamber passed House Resolution 1356, authored by Speaker Prospero Nograles, Majority Leader and Iloilo Rep. Arthur Defensor, and Minority Leader and San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora.

HR 1356 expresses the profound condolences of the House of Representatives to the family of Manalo and to all members of the INC.

In the resolution, the lawmakers said that Manalo’s "dynamic, charismatic, and steady leadership" made INC the "fastest-growing church in the Philippines, putting its membership to about 10 million worldwide."

"Ka Erdy propelled the church toward international recognition by establishing congregations worldwide, including the United States, Italy, Jerusalem and Greece. The death of a beloved spiritual leader and faithful servant will leave a deep void in the hearts and lives of many people, most especially the Iglesia ni Cristo members," it added.

After passing the resolution, Nograles announced that congressmen and House employees who would like to go to Manalo’s wake at the Templo Sentral of the INC will converge at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and leave at 3 p.m., and go back to the Batasan complex before session resumes at 4 p.m.

Defensor then adjourned session at 5:10 p.m. (PNA)
