MANILA, August 27 — Malacanang is advising former President Joseph Estrada to focus on the Dacer-Corbito double murder case instead of accusing the Palace of implicating him on the case.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo said in a media briefing in Malacañang that former President Estrada should focus on defending himself after former Police Senior Superintendent Cesar Mancao implicated him in the Dacer-Corbito murder case.

"Instead of them (Estrada camp) turning to the Palace on it that they’ll accuse the Palace being involved in it, better for them to just defend themselves in the court,” Fajardo said.

She added the court is the better venue for Estrada to prove his innocence on the controversial double murder case.

Mancao testified in court that Estrada was the one who ordered the killings of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in 2000.

“At the end of the day, evidence that will be revealed by both camps shall speak. So, we just have to leave it with the court, the Palace has nothing to do with it,” the presidential spokesperson also stressed.

Estrada, who earlier announced that he was 99.9 percent sure of running in the 2010 presidential race, has consistently placed second in different poll surveys.

He said Malacañang resurrected the nine-year-old case because he has recently been among the front-runners in surveys on the most-preferred presidential aspirants. (PNA)
