MANILA, Aug. 26 — Malacanang today lauded the Senate leadership for its decision to diplomatically resolve the issues surrounding Executive Order 464, which bars Cabinet officials from testifying in congressional hearings without the President’s approval.

“We are very happy to hear that there is an effort on the part of the Senate leadership to consider hearing this dialogue of back channeling with our Presidential Legislative Liaison Officer. We are continuing the dialogue and back channeling on the leadership of Senate and the House of Representatives,” said Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita In a press briefing.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile had earlier announced after a caucus that the Senate has agreed to diplomatically resolve the EO 464 issue without going to court, saying the matter can be resolved diplomatically.

The caucus was called after Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro failed to attend a Senate hearing on the bloody gun battle in Basilan involving the military and Abu Sayyaf bandits.

Ermita said Malacanang maintains its stand to strictly follow the Supreme Court’s order on invoking the executive privilege on matters of national security. (PNA)
