NBI nabs rapist of restaurant employee

MANILA, Aug. 21 –The National Bureau of Investigation has arrested the principal suspect in the eight-year old robbery and rape of a restaurant employee.

NBI Director Nestor M. Mantaring identified the arrested suspect as Dennis Godinez, 29, single, laborer, native of Cebu City and resident of Frank Street., North Fairview, Quezon City.

Romy Bon Huy D. Lim, chief of the Criminal Intelligence Division, said Godinez was arrested by virtue of arrest warrant issued by Judge Thelma Canlas Trinidad-Pe Aguirre of the Caloocan City Regional Trial Court Branch 129.

Godinez was positively identified by the victim as the same person who was among the two who ravished and robbed her on the night of June 10, 2001 in Caloocan City.

The victim had just come from work and was walking on her way home when Godinez and his companion dragged her into a parked jeepney and raped her. They even robbed her of her bag and wrist watch.

As she heard persons passing by, she shouted for help and the two left bringing her clothes. The victim was naked when passersby helped her.

Godinez’s companion, identified as Jupiter Torres, was arrested by Caloocan Police a few days later and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life.

Godinez fled and went into hiding. He was reported to have been reportedly involved in a number of burglary cases in Manila. (PNA)
